Notes & Combos

After Tearstina, I decided to try the complete opposite. A composition of Tier 0 archetypes, two of the strongest in the history of the game, which make for an explosive combo deck.

Zoodiac adds a lot to Tear, mainly a mill 5 with Kagutsuchi, an additional negate with Draco Future and three more 1 card starter spells. And Instant Fusion is unbanned, which both decks used in their prime.

Gem-Knight is fun, Nepyrim is a beast and if milled, can make Broadbull to add Ratpier. I like playing Sapphire since I usually don't get to run normal monsters in Tear decks.

I don't run Fiendsmith, since the Extra Deck is extremely tight, I don't want to add too many engines and focus on Zoodiac, I'm tired of running Fiendsmith after a year, as well as that one guy on another Tear list asking if it is necessary for Gem-Knight Tear. They aren't, but the result definitely is worse.

Advantages:

  • The ability to play a ton of powerful spells that combo, in Instant Fusion, Barrage and Brilliant Fusion
  • Tigermortar can retrieve Ratpier from grave if one copy was milled with Tear
  • Can easily play through many handtraps with the right hand, Ratpier alone is insane
  • Surprisingly capable going second with Ratpier normal into 6 material Zeus, many Mulcharmies and many possible starters being the main reasons

Disadvantages:

  • This deck loses HARD against Fuwa and Maxx C. The correct build would run more Ash and Called By. I didn't want to use these cards and went for the way more fun Rollback + Heavy Slump combo. Make sure you have a Cryme set to negate Ash and you win the duel
  • The deck is unbeatable with the right cards, but likewise, there are many hands that just do nothing going first or going second, so high variance is to be expected
  • Tight extra deck

Non-engine:

I run the best mill targets with the Shufflers which are a godsend against Branded, Snow and Goat. That card and the Impermanences serve as additional targets for Rollback. Nepyrim can discard them, as well as Rollback if drawn which in particular is helpful if Heavy Slump is in the grave.

Another possibility that I considered was to add a four card Radiant Typhoon package in, which allows for M-X Saber Invoker to be added. This leads to an even stronger going first list, which accesses Ratpier if you normal summon Nepyrim as well, three more starters in general and overall heightens the consistency. The downsides are they add nothing going second, require an extra slot and is another archetype mixed in.

Replays

I don't have a lot of good replays, since many players surrender as soon as Ratpier is normal summoned or I just surrender when I either get Maxx C'ed or brick.

Nevertheless, here are again a few of my favourites, which showcase the overall combo lines, the power of the Mulcharmies and the fun you have when you use Heavy Slump, as opposed to the surrender you get when you Ash or Called by Maxx C:
