S55 - Sleeping Beauty

While it's disappointing that Fairy Tail won't be anywhere near full-power yet due to the absence of many core cards, don't be so quick to sleep on the princesses. Inspired by popular OCG duelist Kinghalo's approach, this handtrap-heavy build aims to prioritze the midrange gameplan, combined with cheeky combos that allow you to search for Maxx C. This is a departure from the current standard lists, which rely on the more engine-heavy Verre Magic + Genni package and boardbreakers like Droplet + Super Poly. The main issue I found in testing is that the breakers fall just short of being impactful into the format's top decks — your Kewl Tune matchup lives and dies by SPoly, you need Magistus access + Droplet to even have a chance vs Branded / RT Zoodiac / Elfnote, and you just explode to Dracotail even with your power spells.

So with a simpler go-1st plan and a higher HT count to ease going 2nd, this allows Fairy Tail's key strengths to shine: being extremely sticky + hard to kill, while having the gas to chew through weakened half-boards. This list has about ~14 one-card starters and space for 16 handtraps, with maximum extenders via the 3 copies of Metamorphosis. Meta also represents your best compromise under opposing Fuwa, turning any of your sub-optimal Fairy Tail plays into a workable Caliga control game plan. 3 copies of Matchgiru are likely correct in a world without Regulus or Genia, and serves as the foundation of the Maxx C search combo:

Specifically, the 1-card Matchgiru bridges into Spenta via Endymion link-2 like usual. But instead of overlaying Chorozo + Crowley into Wiccat, you keep it in hand as a target for Summon Sorc. Sorc tutors out Witch of Black Forest from deck, and then you link into Akashic Magician to bounce back the Crowley to fuse into Zoroa, while chainblocking your Maxx C search. Of course, 2+ card combos and hands with excess engine can also convert into a Summon Sorc line (in TCG/OCG, this link material would produce the Charmer Quartet instead).

While Fairy Tail will remain a floating rogue option for now, I think this deck is overall a good investment for the future, building towards a fairy tale happy ending as spellcaster slop slowly takes form.
